"HOWDEE"

We found "Howdee", an aged TB mare, half-starved and injured, at the home of a wealthy hay-farmer when  we went to get hay one day. Apparently, she got all twisted up in barbed wire and cut her leg open 'stem-to-stern".  The injury went untreated and was  a couple of months old by the time we got to her.....poor thing. We spent days trying to talk the old farmer into letting us have her so we could get her to a vet, but he was adamant that she "didn't need no vettin' stating his belief that she would "be OK." without help. "Not,...." we reminded him, "if the infection goes to the bone." "Besides", I told him, "she is obviously in pain and not in the best of health." Well, he didnt want to 'waste no money" on her, 'being an old horse,"...despite the fact that he was one of the wealthiest (if not THE wealthiest) hay farmer in the tri-state area! Go figure, a hay farmer with a starving horse! Finally, Kathy from Bella Horse Rescue learned of Howdee's plight and straight-away offered to purchase Howdee from him outright. How quickly the old f@rT grabbed the $200 she offered! Howdee's ransom paid, we bought her home to QARR and kept her here until which time arrangements could be made to take her down to Bella Horse Rescue, where she happily resides now.

Howdee before.............

Howdee after.....

What a beautiful horse she turned out to be! See what a little love can do?

Enemic and diagnosed with EPM, Howdee made a miraclous recovery. Be sure and click the link below for more of Howdee's story and additional pics.
